President Obama delivered a major speech on climate change and the Keystone Pipeline at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Tuesday afternoon.
The president spoke about the controversial Keystone Pipeline XL project, and says it should only be approved as long as it does not worsen carbon pollution.
The pipeline would carry oil from Canadian tar sands to refineries in the gulf. The president also said the only way the pipeline will be built is if it's in the nation's best interest.
President Obama said, “The negative effects of the pipeline's impact, the negative effects of the pipeline's impact on our climate will be absolutely critical to determining whether this project is allowed to go forward."
The pipeline would run through parts of North and South Dakota.
