Family, Friends Mourn Loss Of Accident Victim

Bookmark and Share

One person died and another was injured in a motorcycle crash in sioux falls early Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, we not only learned the names of the victims but we're learning more about the young man who was killed.

A cross, bouquets of flowers and kind words from friends, now mark the spot where their loved one, 23-year-old Jacob Huggett of Long Prairie, Minnesota was killed.

Lt. Jerome Miller said, "It's just one of those things, you don't want to have to see."> [Duration:0:04]

Sioux Falls Police say Huggett was driving a motorcycle with 20-year-old Tobben Aeschliman of Sioux Falls on the back. The two were heading west on 26th Street at a high rate of speed, when they traveled through the intersection at Kiwanis Avenue and hit a chain link fence.

Miller said, "We realize the lives that are effected, the kids that are effected, not only the injuries, you know, the pain, the suffering from family You know losing a family member especially the young people is even worse than losing the older ones."

Just beyond the fence, where Huggett's life was taken there's a CD, which provides us with just a small glimpse of who Huggett was. Tuesday morning the Sioux Falls band called 'Close Clearance' lost their guitar player and words written on Facebook suggest that others lost a good friend.

Tobben Aischliman writes, "RIP Jake....I'm so sorry I couldn't help you as you laid next to me after we wrecked.... I wish to god I could have done something to help you...it's not fair that you're gone and I'm still here.... Watch over us... I'm so sorry."

While one of the victims recovers, police are still trying to figure out from the bike and from the skid marks, now faded by rain and covered with chalk, what caused the two not to stop, or take one crucial turn.

Police say before the two crashed they were coming from a party nearby. Although they say speed was most likely a factor in the crash, police not able to say yet whether drugs and alcohol were involved.
Those results won't be in for at least another week.

So far this year, there have been 35 motorcycle accidents in Sioux Falls. This is the first fatal crash.
