'Hot Harley Nights' Is In Full Swing

Bookmark and Share

The roar of motorcycles throughout Sioux Falls will be a lot louder over the weekend. That’s because thousands of motorcycle lovers from around the Midwest are in town to raise money for the South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation.

If you think that this sound seems to be a lot more prevalent over the next few days, it's for a good reason.

“This is our 18th annual 'Hot Harley Nights' and it’s a big benefit we hold for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Dakota,” said Jim Entenman, Co-Owner of J & L Harley-Davidson.

Throughout the weekend over 30,000 people are expected to attend 'Hot Harley Nights.' There will be food, music, drinks, and of course, motorcycles.

And while for some attending the festivities are just their way of helping out, for one woman, it's her way of giving back to kids who are in the same situation she once was in.

“It's absolutely huge now, and it’s amazing,” said Amanda Nyhaug, a former ‘Wish Kid.’

At 14, Nyhaug's wish was granted by the South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation. Now at 32, and Leukemia free, her and her family have been volunteering for the last 16 years at 'Hot Harley Nights.'

“We have about 16 of us that come out and volunteer here every Friday night, and we have a blast,” said Nyhaug.

Nyhaug said this event means so much to her, because she knows just how much a distraction from reality means to a sick child.

"(It's) something that they can have time away from the hospital, or  time with family they don't normally get, time to just not think about  whatever they have,” Nyhaug said.

And with the goal of raising $150,000 dollars, at around $7,000 a wish, 21 kids could have their wishes come true like Nyhaug's did.

“In the last 18 years of our event we have raised just short of $2 million for South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation,” Entenman said.
