'Hot Harley Nights' Makes Its Way Downtown

Bookmark and Share

Downtown Sioux Falls was a big party Saturday night. But there’s one event that everyone looks forward to. It’s the chance to ride alongside thousands of others as motorcyclists make their way from J & L Harley-Davidson to the city as part of the 18th annual ‘Hot Harley Nights.’

Four thousand motorcycles rolled their way into downtown Sioux Falls Saturday night for day two of 'Hot Harley Nights.' And the money made from the ride, as well as the festivities after, will go towards the South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“It's neat to see the kids at the very beginning coming down,” said Kim Klingenberg, Garretson.

Leading the parade were just a handful of the more than one thousand South Dakota kids that have had their wishes granted by the organization over the last three decades.

“It’s a really good thing to do. I guess it’s just nice to help them out,” said Tabi Klingenberg, Garretson.

And as the roar of motorcycles filled the air, for the Klingenberg family, it was a time to give thanks that all their children are healthy, while also getting some ideas for their own two wheel rides.

“It's just fun to watch,” said Arlen Klingenberg, Garretson.

Arlen has brought his family to the 'Hot Harley Nights' parade for the last two years. A motorcycle owner himself, Arlen says the parade of cyclists shows that underneath all that leather, there's a softer side to the riders perceived to be rough and tough.

“Truthfully, motorcyclists are the most generous, kindest people on the face of the earth,” Arlen said.

“Every year it seems like it’s getting bigger and bigger, and it makes it more of a reason to come out and support kids,” said Kim.

The goal is to raise $150,000 for the South Dakota Make-A-Wish Foundation. At around $7,000 a wish, up to 21 South Dakota kids could get theirs granted from the money raised.
