Hits, hustle and heart.
Just another day at the yard for Nick Van Stratten.
"I just feel like I got the same expectation every day. I go out there, play the game hard. I'm not gonna go out there and say well, we got 30 games left, I'm gonna give up some at-bats or some plays on defense. I go out there every day with the same attitude." Van Stratten says.
In a year where the Canaries have struggled to find consistency, Nick has been their rock at the top of the lineup, leading the team in batting average, hits, and setting a new franchise record with 13 triples.
"I mean the energy that he brings, I think all my guys play hard but, I mean, Nick brings a lot of energy to the game every night." Canaries Manager Steve Shirley says.
Which makes it hard to believe that Van Stratten came very close to quitting when he was released by the Kansas City Royals after seven years in their farm system.
"Wasn't for sure if this where I wanted to go or just, thought it was time for me to hang it up. And I was like, might as well give it another shot. I'm single, 28, I mean, I really don't want a real job yet!" Nick says.
Now he's grinding for another shot in affiliated ball....
...By grinding every time he takes the field. In Sioux Falls, Zach Borg, KDLT Sports
