A Chicago man traveling the Missouri River this summer on a stand-up paddleboard figures he'll use about a million strokes from Three Forks, Mont., to St. Louis.
During a recent stop in Pierre, Scott Mestrezat said that Lake Oahe was brutal and probably the most difficult part of the trip so far.
His board is from a kit. It's about 14 feet long, about 30 inches wide and 7 inches deep. He carries about 80 pounds of gear strapped to the top of the board, including a solar panel that powers his electronics.
The 27-year-old is documenting the 2,300-mile trip with video and still photos.
Mestrezat says he hopes to finish the trip in about three months.
