Rapid City Uranium Resolution Will Be Accepted

Bookmark and Share

A resolution from the Rapid City Council expressing concern about a proposed uranium mine will be included in the public record.

The state earlier rejected the resolution because it was filed after the deadline.

The State Board of Minerals and Environment reversed its previous decision and will accept it. City Attorney Joel Landeen told the council Tuesday at a special board meeting.

Public hearings are being held this week in Rapid City on Powertech Uranium Corp.'s plans for a large-scale mine near Edgemont in the southern Black Hills.

Rapid City officials submitted a petition to intervene in Powertech's permit application. They included a resolution detailing the council's belief that the proposed mine poses a risk to the city's drinking water.
