More than 14,000 people lined the hills of Custer State Park for the 48th annual buffalo roundup.
Riders on horseback gathered more than 1,000 bison into holding pens Friday in what has become a huge tourist draw for South Dakota's Black Hills.
But park managers also use it as a management tool. They brand and vaccinate the animals and cull the herd.
About 400 will be auctioned in November, which generates about $500,000 for park operations.
