USD Tops IUPUI In Five Set Thriller

Bookmark and Share

VERMILLION, S.D. – Three Coyotes recorded double-doubles and Kaitlyn Hastings had a career-high 20 digs as South Dakota topped the IUPUI Jaguars 22-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11 at the DakotaDome on Sunday.

Kendall Kritenbrink had 22 kills and 12 digs to lead South Dakota’s (11-6, 2-0) double-double performers. Tori Kroll tallied a 52 assist-13 dig match while Audrey Reeg added an 11 kill-11 dig effort.  Riley Haug recorded 17 digs, Sydney Dimke had 12 kills and Kelsey Biltoft tallied 10 blocks to round out USD’s double digit performers.

USD had 18 kills in the second set, never trailed in the fourth or fifth set and had no more than four errors in any of those three sets. South Dakota also recorded its second highest block total since 2000, finishing the match with 19 team blocks.

After beating Fort Wayne 3-0 on Friday night, the Coyotes have now knocked off both of last season’s Summit League Championship participants in the opening weekend of league play.  USD is tied with Denver at the top of the league standings entering the second week.

Kaitlyn Hickey led IUPUI (6-11, 0-2) with 19 kills and 15 digs.  Moriah Fair also had a double-double for the Jaguars with 13 kills and 14 digs.

South Dakota will be on the road next weekend as they face North Dakota State on Friday and South Dakota State on Saturday.  Both those matches will start at 7 p.m.
