Authorities are investigating after a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper shot a man following a chase that ended on the west side of Rapid City.
Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom declined to provide details about what sparked the chase. But he says it began Monday afternoon in Meade County and ended near Interstate 90 and Deadwood Avenue when the vehicle crashed into a ditch.
Troopers immediately arrested one of the men in the vehicle, 23-year-old Joseph Paul Andrews, of Rapid City.
The other man, 27-year-old William Chandler, of Rapid City, ran away and was chased by a trooper in the parking lot of the nearby Butler Machinery dealership.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says trooper Mike Bock shot Chandler, who has been admitted to a hospital for a gunshot wound.
