Whittier Neighborhood Unveils Signs

Bookmark and Share

A central Sioux Falls neighborhood can now welcome residents and visitors to that part of town.

Thursday afternoon, signs that will be placed around the Whittier Neighborhood were unveiled. The blue and white signs resemble the colors of the middle school. A green leaf of them symbolizes the famous poet John Greenleaf Whittier, who the neighborhood is named after. The industrial lettering represents the working class people that have made up the area since it began.

Gigi Rieder, President of the Whittier Residents Association said, "We started on this about 2.5 years ago. We came up with different ideas, we started off with banners, but then we realized they only last about two years. So then we went ahead and decided that we were going to go with something that will stay with the neighborhood.”

There will be 75 signs placed throughout the neighborhood.
