Businesses Ask People To Donate To Ranchers

Bookmark and Share

It's estimated that $15,000 to $30,000 head of livestock died in the early autumn blizzard that hit western South Dakota two weeks ago. The devastation may be hours away, but businesses in and around Sioux Falls are pitching in to help out.

Hit with heavy snow, high winds, and soaked with rain, some ranchers in South Dakota lost half of their herds.

Ed Beal, Sales Execution Coordinator for Beal Distributing said, "It's just you drive down the interstate and you can see cows just laying in the ditch or on the sides of the roads."

Beal knew their company had to do something. So Budweiser went to their customers for help.

Beal said, "Anywhere from Beresford up to Brookings, any of our accounts in between there."

Beal has partnered with more than 60 different area businesses. At each one, they ask you if you'd like to donate a dollar to the 'Rancher Relief Fund'. And that's exactly what people have done.

Cubby's Store Manager Jeff Wendling said, "A lot of em are repeat customers."

Cubby's on West 12th Street in Sioux Falls began asking it's customers to give a dollar on Tuesday. Since then, they've collected more than $400.

Wendling said, "They realize no matter what part of the state you're from, you're all a big family pretty much, if it happened over here they would pick up for us and vise versa."

Picking our neighbors up when they're down, $1 at a time.

All of the Cubby's stations in Sioux Falls, including the stores in Mitchell and stores in Dell Rapids and Tea are asking their customers to help the ranchers out. Those who donate have a chance to win a quarter of beef donated by Hammer Cattle Company of Garretson.
