Life With Laura: Last Minute Costume Shopping

Bookmark and Share

Halloween is right around the corner, but if you have yet to pick out your costume, there’s still time.

Every season, costumes run the gamut from gory to cute to downright bizarre. But whether you're looking to turn into a pretty princess, or just something pretty creepy, the Spirit Halloween Store in Sioux Falls has it all.

Throughout the years, employees at Spirit Halloween say they've seen some pretty outlandish costumes. However, each year, there's one in particular that seems to grab customers’ attention.

“Last year it was Gangnam style, this year it was twerking,” said Ron Callahan, Area Manager of Spirit Halloween in Sioux Falls.

While a Miley Cyrus look-a-like may not be for you, the classics are always a hit.

“The basics stay the same: the vampires, the witches and the devils and the angels,” said Callahan.

Some other popular choices this year are dressing as a character from your favorite movie or going door-to-door as a creature of the Walking Dead.

Not only are the styles changing year to year, so are the numbers on the price tag.

“It used to be a $20 costume was the max,” said Callahan. “We now have some $50-$60 costumes in the children's section and they are selling out.”

There is some good news; you don't have to break the bank to pull off a look that will get you noticed.

“We have makeup tubes for $1.99 - $2.99 and cloaks and hooded robes and things like that for  $16.99 so a person can put a costume together for $20 and still go out and have fun,” said Callahan.

Callahan said the store does 75 percent of its sales the week of Halloween, so you're not alone if you haven't picked a costume out yet.

If you want to get a head start on next year's costumes, go shopping the weekend after Halloween.
Spirit Halloween will have costumes up to 75 percent off.
