SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana nearly overcame a 20-point second-half deficit but Central Missouri (2-0) used hot 3-point shooting to down the Vikings (0-2) 75-63 on Sunday afternoon at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls. Casey Schilling had a monster game for the Vikings putting up career-highs in points (20), rebounds (13) and steals (5).

Daniel Jansen finished with 20 points and six rebounds while sitting out a large chunk of minutes in the second half in foul trouble.

The last time Augustana had two players score 20-plus points in a game was on Feb. 9, 2013 at Northern State when Jansen scored 24 and Cameron McCaffrey 25.

Central Missouri was red hot from the field in the first half shooting 62 percent and finished the game hitting 47 percent, including 10 of 22 (45 percent) from 3-point range. Kyle Wolf led the Mules with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. The Mules had three players in double-digits as Daylen Robinson and Preston Brunz each added 10 points.

Augustana finished the game shooting 41 percent (23 of 56) from the field but was just 4 of 18 (22 percent) from 3-point range. Matthew Brazendale picked up a season-high 12 points on 5 of 12 shooting.

Augustana built an early five-point lead at 9-4 with the help of a 3-point-play by Ethan Guske and 3-pointer by Jansen but the Mules went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-9 lead with 12:23 to play in the first half.

Evan Pierce stopped the bleeding with consecutive baskets on Augustana's next two possessions and the Vikings and Mules went into the second media timeout of the first half tied at 15.

Schilling brought the Vikings in front 18-17 with a 3-pointer with 8:45 to play in the first half but Central Missouri answered with three 3-pointers over the next 52 seconds to go back in front 26-20. The Mules continued to shoot lights out from 3-point range in the first half and led by as much as 11 at 40-29 with 3:27 to play in the half.

The Mules caught fire towards the end of the second half making 12 straight field goals, including six 3-pointers over a 10 minute stretch to take a 48-34 lead at the break. Central Missouri shot 63 percent (20 of 32) from the field, including 7 of 13 (54 percent) from 3-point range in the first half.

Augustana was 12 of 26 (46 percent) from the field in the first half, including just 2 of 7 from 3-point range. Jansen scored 16 points in the first half, going 5 of 9 from the field with a 3-pointer and knocking down 5 of 6 shots from the free throw line.

Central Missouri dominated the glass in the first half grabbing 20 rebounds, including 15 defensive boards. The Mules scored 24 of their 48 first half points in the paint.

The Mules opened up the second half on a 15-9 run over the first eight minutes to take their largest lead of the night at 63-43 with 11:41 to play in the game. Schilling single-handedly got Augustana back into the game scoring seven of Augustana's next 11 points on an 11-1 run to get the Vikings within 10 at 64-54 with 6:15 to play.

Brazendale got the Vikings within six at 64-58 with 4:12 to play but the Vikings missed four straight field goal attempts and Central Missouri was able to push its lead back up to 12 with 50 seconds left in the game. The Mules hit six free throws in the final minute of the game to seal the 75-63 victory for Central Missouri.

Augustana returns to action on Nov. 20, hosting Presentation College at 6 p.m. at the Elmen Center.
