Pets At Local Shelter Looking For A Home

Bookmark and Share

They are some of the saddest, loneliest faces you'll find at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

While many pets have a relatively short stay at the shelter, for others, it can be a long time before a loving family finds them for a place in their home.

We're highlighting a few of dogs and cats at the shelter that desperately need a home. Some of these pets have been in a kennel at the shelter for almost an entire year and want to help make your life a little brighter.

Wilhamina has been at the shelter for over 323 days. She came to the shelter because she didn't get along with the other dog in the household. She does like some dogs, though introductions are required if you have another pet at home.  She's never been around cats, but workers at the shelter say she has been a wonderful dog to be around. Wilhamina enjoys playing fetch and sleeping under the blankets. Shelter workers say will need a patient and an active new owner willing to train and to give her plenty since she is a puppy at heart.

Chevy has been at the shelter for over 130 days. He came to the shelter as a stray, but was not claimed, so little is known about his earlier life. He is a friendly boy who just wants to be at your side.
Shelter workers say he doesn't make too much noise, aside from the odd grunt or whine. Chevy would do well in a home with children of any age to keep him busy. He has loads of energy and will need a patient owner who has the time to exercise him. Chevy is not yet neutered; however, he is microchipped, frontlined and started on vaccinations!

Ernie came to the shelter as a stray and was not claimed, so little is known about his earlier life. He is a friendly boy who is a little shy at first. Ernie enjoys attention on his own terms and isn't quite sure what he thinks about other cats or dogs, because he has not lived with any. Ernie is neutered, microchipped, frontlined, tested negative for feline leukemia, and started on vaccinations!

Wendy came to the shelter as a stray but was not claimed, so little is known about her earlier life. She is an independent girl, likes being petted on her own terms and will come to you for attention when the mood takes her. Wendy isn't sure what she think of other cats or dogs, because she has not lived with any.

If you're looking for a good friend to brighten your life, look at adoption first at a shelter like the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society before visiting a breeder.
