FSD Offering TSA Pre Check Option At Airport

Bookmark and Share

It can be stressful going through security at any airport, but beginning Tuesday, it just got a little easier for some of those who are traveling out of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

Kicking off your shoes and taking off your coat is pretty much a given when you hit the security line at the airport. But it doesn't have to be. The Sioux Falls Regional Airport HAS joined a hundred others,
offering what TSA calls Pre Check.

A TSA Representative said to a passenger, "You do have a laptop in here right? Okay, and that can stay there because you are in the Pre Check."

With Pre Check, you no longer have to pull laptops and toiletries out of your bag. You don't have to take off your belt, any light weight jacket, and best off all, you can walk right on through with your shoes.

Bill Goehring, a traveler from Sioux Falls said, "It allows me to be a little more stress free because I don't have to have to take my shoes off and I don't have to worry that things are going to spill out of my camera bag when I open it up to take my computer out. It just makes it a lot easier and faster."

Pre Check is offered when you fly on certain airlines and on a flight-by-flight basis.

Sioux Falls Regional Airport Executive Director Dan Letellier said, "There could be some times you know one trip you go through and you qualify to be a pre-check passenger and maybe the next time you don't."

With Pre Check, TSA electronically analyzes each passengers information when they go through the reservation process. They conduct a real time risk assessment and will clear select passengers.

Letellier said, "This will expedite the screening for a lot of folks who have a lower risk for traveling and will make the process for those folks a lot easier."

Also making it easier when you get to the other side.

The Pre Check Security Program began in October of 20-11 as a pilot program at four airports. There are nine airlines that participate in Pre Check, which includes Delta American and United Airlines. Frontier and Allegient Air don't.

For a fee each year, you can sign up for Pre-Check at some of the larger airports.
