One Person Injured In Sioux Falls House Fire

One person was injured and two cats were killed in overnight fire

One person was injured and two cats were killed after a fire broke out in a Sioux Falls home Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called to the home on the 2300 block of South Wayland Court just after 11:30. When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the basement of the home.

According to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jim Powers, several family members inside the home at the time made it out safely. One person was treated for an undisclosed injury at the scene and released. Two cats succumbed to smoke inhalation and did not survive.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 15 minutes. Crews remained on the scene overnight check for hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
