The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced on Monday that Kieffer Bellows has been named USHL/CCM Co-Forward of the Week and Dillon Eichstadt has been USHL/CCM Defenseman of the Week after helping the Stampede earn back-to-back victories on home ice over the weekend. It marks the second straight week that Bellows has earned the award and the second time in three weeks Eichstadt has taken home the award.
Bellows tallied a goal and an assist and finished a plus-1 in a 4-1 win over Chicago on Friday and followed that performance with his second hat trick in as many weeks on Saturday in a 3-2 victory over the Force. On Saturday, Bellows scored all three goals in the second period, including one on the power play, to help the Herd move into sole possession of fourth place in the West and improve to 20-15-5 on the year. The 16-year-old now has eight goals in his last four games.
The Edina, MN native is currently riding a season high seven-game point scoring streak and has 14 points (11g, 3a) in his last 10 games. He currently ranks second in the USHL in goals scored (24) and is second on the Stampede in total points (34). He is also a team best plus-10 on the year and has six power play goals.
Bellows was the Herd’s first round pick (13th overall) during the 2014 Phase 1 USHL Draft after spending last season at Edina High School (MN) where posted 34 points (13g, 21a) in 31 games while leading the Hornets to the Minnesota State High School AA Championship. He has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Boston University.
Eichstadt tallied a goal and finished a plus-2 in the Herd’s 4-1 victory over Chicago on Friday. With the Stampede leading 3-0 early in the second period, Eichstadt tallied his fifth goal of the season on a blast from the point that gave the Herd a commanding four goal lead. On Saturday, the defenseman celebrated his birth day by helping set up the Stampede’s second goal in their 3-2 victory in front of a lower bowl sellout crowd of 6,764 fans at the PREMIER Center.
The Bemidji, MN native leads all Stampede defensemen in scoring with 18 points (5g, 13a) and a plus-7 rating. The Stampede’s first round draft pick (13th overall) in last year’s USHL Phase II draft has 7 points (4g, 3a) and a plus-7 rating over his last 10 games. He has already committed to return home next season and play collegiate hockey at Bemidji State University.
Bellows, Eichstadt and the Stampede return to action this Sunday when they travel to Des Moines to take on the Buccaneers at 5:05 PM.
