Man Sentenced For Killing Uncle In Yankton With Hammer

A man accused of murdering his uncle in Yankton last year has been sentenced to serve 50 years in prison.

Joshua Hudson was accused of using a hammer to kill 46-year-old Todd Hudson in March 2014. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to manslaughter in a deal with prosecutors.

On Thursday, Hudson was sentenced to 150 years with 100 suspended. He could have faced life in prison if convicted on the initial charge of second-degree homicide.

Hudson was ordered to pay $19,100 in prosecution fees, $1,829 to reimburse his uncle’s funeral costs and court fees.

Hudson underwent four psychiatric evaluations. Two concluded he was legally insane at the time of the killing. One concluded he was sane, and one was inconclusive.
