Pick your poison against Sioux Falls West Justin Kautz.

Is he a better hitter or pitcher?

Joel Sage, West Coach: “tough call, great all-around player…”

Justin Kautz:”I like pitching overall. I struggled with it earlier in my career, I had a hard time throwing strikes and sometimes I still struggle with that. But I’ve always known that I can get batters out.”

Wherever he’s at, Justin loves to be in the middle of everything.

Kautz:”It’s fun to get that rush when you get the big save, or you get the big hit in the 3-hole. You get the rush of being a leader and producing…

And for the last three years, Kautz batted third and anchored West’s lineup, while also serving as their closer.

Sage:”He understands what it takes to be a leader. Quite a few of his saves are of the 2-inning variety and he’s bailed us out of a lot of big jams. So he’s been great in that aspect and he’s been a 3-hole hitter and first baseman and has done a terrific job of hitting for average and hitting for power…”

Kautz:”You know you really don’t feel the pressure, you kind of get used to it as the season goes on…that weight isn’t entirely there…”

Putting that pressure back on anyone he faced.
