Next Chapter Of A Lifelong Fight
Jennifer Hiles Heads To New York With A Cure In Sight
Jennifer Hiles has battled her entire life.
She was born with Arteriovenous Malformation, or AVM.
She describes it as a knot of blood vessels and arteries in her face.
A year ago, she set up a GoFundMe page in an effort to get help for surgeries.
“When I first set up the GoFundMe, I thought maybe I would get a couple hundred, maybe even a thousand dollars to maybe help me get to New York,” said Hiles.
One year later, her page has raised over $33,000 and on Sunday, she’s going to New York with her family to start a series of surgeries.
“That means me being healthy for literally the first time in my whole entire life,” said Hiles.
First, she will have two surgeries on May 16th and 18th for the process of removing her AVM.
She’ll then have surgeries every three weeks for the next three months to repair her nose and skin.
A woman who’s battled her whole life is ready for the next fight.
“I just want to make it through the surgery and I want everything to go well. I want to be able to live a long, happy, normal life that’s healthy for once,” said Hiles.
The mother of two has one goal in mind.
“I think my main goal in life is just to be a grandma and I really want to have that chance. Right now, I can’t picture that so I hope one day I can actually picture that,” Hiles said.
She said her experience has taught her a simple lesson: You can’t do everything by yourself.
From the donations to her family, they’ve made her dream possible.
“The power of a bunch of people working together is just amazing. They can change someone’s life and I don’t know if they realize how much they’re changing my life,” said Hiles.

Hiles also said the Wells Fargo account open for donations is still available. It’s now under the title of “Kelly Hiles.”
