Memorial Services For USD’s First Lady Planned

The memorial service for Colette Abbott, wife of University of South Dakota President James W. Abbott, will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 9, in Aalfs Auditorium in Slagle Hall on campus.

The family is also hosting an open house at the president’s residence, 415 East Main Street, on Sunday, May 8, from 2-5 p.m. and is open to the public.

In a statement, South Dakota Board of Regents executive director and CEO Mike Rush said, “Colette Abbott has been a tremendous supporter of the University of South Dakota and an asset to the entire system of higher education. We are deeply grieved by her passing.” 

Abbott died suddenly at her home on Wednesday.
