SOUTH DAKOTA STRONG: Olympian McPherson Teaches In Sioux Falls

Olympic Bronze Medalist Paige McPherson Of Sturgis

The five tenants of Tae Kwon Do are perseverance, indomitable spirit, integrity, courage and self control.

And if you don’t think Sturgis’ Paige McPherson embodies that, she might fight you.

The Olympic bronze medalist nicknamed McFierce is in Sioux Falls this weekend coaching at Tiger Peak Performance and South Dakota Martial Arts Association Tae Kwon Do training camp at the Avera Sports bubble.

Along with coach and former 3-Time Olympian Juan Miguel Moreno, McPherson will be heading off to England tomorrow to train for the Olympics.

But this weekend gives are a chance to teach kids who have the same dreams she had growing up, and maybe pick up a few things that will make her better in the process.

“Another refreshing reminder of where I grew up. You know I was here when I first started. So to humble myself again, to be able to give back to a group of kids, and then to continue my path to Rio.”  McPherson says.

“And I really believe that she learns from it. It’s one thing to be an athlete, it’s one thing to be a good soldier because I’m constantly telling her what to do, when to do it, how to do it and she follows that to a T. But when you teach your forced to think things through a little bit more for yourself.”  Moreno says.

McPherson took Bronze at the London games in 2012 and competes in Rio on August 19th.
