Ben Has Fought His Way To The UFC

Nguyen has overcome odds to make it to the UFC

After getting picked on as a kid, Ben Nguyen took Tae Kwon Do courses.

These days nobody bullies him.

“I wanted to go to the Olympics. But I just fell in love with Mixed Martial Arts. Just all the different aspects. Learning wrestling, Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo and all the different Martial Arts. I just kind of fell in love with it and that’s where it took off for me.” Nguyen says.

That passion took from him from early fights in South Dakota….

“I fought here eight years ago, in Sioux Falls, at the Fairgrounds. Just in the middle of nowhere!” Ben remembers.

…around the world and into the UFC….

“I went to Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand to train and get a little bit of extra knowledge. I lived in Australia for a little bit.” Nguyen says.

…and ultimately back home last week at UFC Fight Night 91 in Sioux Falls.

“It just kind of came full circle for me. I can’t even put words to describe it. It’s just surreal, like a dream.” Ben says.

Though it ended with his sixth defeat in 21 professional fights Ben knows better than most….

“I can’t believe I have so much support of not only my family, my friends, and the whole community of Sioux Falls. The Vietnamese community has been so supportive of me here. I feel like I have to show my worth to Sioux Falls a little bit more so it makes me want to work harder.” Nguyen says.

….how to fight back.
