Suspect In Yankton Bank Robbery Still At Large
Left suspicious package during robbery, photos released of suspect
UPDATE: Authorities in Yankton have cleared the scene of a suspicious package left during a bank robbery, and released photos of the suspect.
Yankton Police Chief Brian Paulson said a man walked into the Wells Fargo on Cedar St. just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Paulson said the man, who was wearing a disguise that included an old man mask, long hair and a red cap. The man demanded money and put a package on the counter before telling an employee not to report the package for 30 minutes.
The man walked out with an undisclosed amount of money and left in a small, silver SUV.
Paulson said the package was deemed inert by the bomb squad. The Sioux Falls bomb squad, Division of Criminal Investigation, FBI and ATF were called in to investigate.
Authorities blocked off the area while investigating the package.
One man who lived a block away said he had to evacuate his apartment when the incident happened.
“I was definitely nervous,” said Trevor Hickens. “I mean, that’s not something typical of Yankton, South Dakota. This is a very small, safe community. The Yankton Police Department does a wonderful job at keeping all the residents safe and this is just something completely out of the blue.”
Authorities released three photos of the suspect, including the disguise and the package.
