Watertown Optometrist Arrested For Burglary, Drug Charges

A Watertown optometrist has been arrested after she burglarized a home in the northeast part of town. She was found with a prescription medication and a garage door opener, both belonging to the homeowner.

According to assistant chief Tim Toomey of the Watertown Police Department, Melanie Weiss has been charged with second-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance Friday. Toomey says that her arrest is part of an ongoing investigation regarding similar activity reported over a period of time.

Weiss is being held on a $10,000 bond.

If she is convicted, Weiss faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine for the burglary charge. She faces up to five years in prison or a $10,000 fine for the possession charge.
