Bergner Kicking Coyotes To Wins

School's All-Time Leading Scorer Continues Success For USD

The South Dakota football team picked up a big overtime win at Indiana State last week thanks in part to the big leg of senior kicker Miles Bergner.

Bergner kicked four field goals including the eventual game winner in USD’s 33-30 double overtime win and was named national special teams player of the week.

He also became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 247 points.

Bergner doubles as the team punter, and head coach Bob Nielson said it’s a big advantage to have such a weapon in the special teams game.

“You get spoiled as a coach when you have a kicker that is as consistent as he is. You think of 40 yard field goals like extra points and he was clutch again for us throughout the afternoon on Saturday,” said Bergner.

USD starts a two game home stand on Saturday against Illinois State at 2 p.m.
