Audrey Reeg The Quiet Storm At The Center Of Coyote Volleyball

Karl's TV & Appliance Athlete of the Week

In a game where emotions run wild, Audrey Reeg is the calm in the storm.

“I’m well balanced in that I never get too high, never get too low, I’m pretty consistent.” Reeg says.

She may be balanced, but at South Dakota her presence put the Coyote volleyball program over the top.

“Audrey’s I think a program changer in a lot of ways. We didn’t know where she was going to fit on the court right away but she’s just such a natural volleyball player, she understands the game so well, that she’s kind of one of those players that you need on the floor.” USD Head Volleyball Coach Leanne Williamson says.

The Dubuque native made an impact right away on the court and off. Reeg started as a freshman and earning all-conference honors as a junior, and quickly became the team’s foundation.

“That’s really important to have some one that’s kind of the leader but isn’t going to yell at you or throw you out of the gym. I’m not that person.” Audrey says.

“Steady person to have on the court. You always know where she’s going to be, where she’s supposed to be in her assignments, if she’s going to make the big plays when we need her to. And she just fits into all those rolls so well.” USD Junior Setter Brittany Jessen says.

It payed off in a senior season that saw Audrey notch a career best 432 kills, to move her to 7th in program history with more than 1200. Along the way she led USD to the regular season Summit League title and player of the year honors.

“And yet I don’t think she likes being in the spotlight. First and foremost she wants the team to succeed.” Williamson says.

Fittingly, at the end of Audrey’s career, it’s the quiet moments….

“Just thankful that it’s with these girls. It’s so much fun every day.” Reeg says.

…. that she’ll remember the most.
