Mayor Of Brandon Surprised Badlands Motor Speedway Is For Sale
Last Wednesday, the owner of Badlands Motor Speedway announced that after just one season, he will be selling the race track.
It was a surprise to many, including the Mayor of Brandon.
Mayor Larry Beesley says he didn’t think Chuck Brennan would sell this quickly because of the amount of business he had last summer.
Since the track has been open for the last 60 years, Mayor Beesley says it’s become an integral part of Brandon.
During big events like the Gold Cup and The World of Outlaws, many people travel to the small city.
And when they do, they stop at local restaurants, convenience stores and gas stations.
“There are a lot of businesses that last year saw a boom a little bit in their weekend sales because of this speedway and the renovations that he has put into this,” says Mayor Beesley. “It would be really sad if this sat for a year or two.”
Chuck Brennan has released a statement that credits Initiated Measure 21 as the reason why he decided to close.
The measure puts a 36 percentage interest rate cap on payday loans.
Since Brennan’s flagship businesses is Dollar Loan Center, he decided to take his businesses elsewhere.
If he does not find a buyer, Badlands Motor Speedway does not plan to open for the 2017 racing season.
