Expert Tips To Deal With Deep Freeze
Power outage information & protect your home during cold weather
Xcel Energy is preparing for the heavy snow, ice and brutally cold temperatures set to hit the region this weekend. The company says it has crews and equipment ready to respond to power outages.
People are asked to check the outage map on Xcel’s website for the latest on the number of customers affected and when their power will come back on. Remember to report any downed power lines you see by calling 1-800-895-1999. Also, have a home emergency kit with items like flashlights, batteries, a battery-powered radio or TV, backup phone chargers, bottled water and nonperishable food.

Keep cupboard doors underneath your sinks open, allowing warm air to circulate around the pipes. Letting water continuously drip from faucets also helps prevent pipes from freezing or breaking. Experts say keep your thermostat set to the same temperature all day and night during frigid weather. Also, remember to close your garage door to protect water pipes from the cold.
