DAUMINATION! Big Game From Daum Leads SDSU Past Murray State In Overtime

Jackrabbits Race Past Racers 88-84

BROOKINGS, S.D. ––  One week after putting up a career-high 33 points last Saturday in a win over Idaho, South Dakota State sophomore Mike Daum did it again when his team needed it the most one week later.

Daum poured in 39 points, including an SDSU record 16-16 at the free throw line, and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Jackrabbits past Murray State 88-84 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena.

The victory is SDSU’s (6-7) fifth win in their last six games.

The Jacks seldom ever trailed in the game, leading 34-29 at half, and might have cruised to victory if not for another outstanding performance by Murray State’s Jonathan Stark.  The junior transfer from Tulane shot the Racers back into the game after they fell behind by 12 midway through the second half.  Stark was 9-15 from three point range and scored 32 points, including the game tying three with 59 seconds left that would send the game into the extra session all square at 72.

The Racers built a three point lead in overtime but solid defense, free throw shooting, and six more points from Daum down the stretch gave the Jacks just enough to finish the game off.

Reed Tellinghuisen added 13 points, seven rebounds and a career high six assists for SDSU.  A.J. Hess also scored 11.

Bryce Jones and Terrell Miller each scored 16 for the Racers.

SDSU hits the road for a Monday night game in Des Moines against the Drake Bulldogs at 7 PM.
