Santa Visits KDLT News Today

The Sioux Falls Santa Claus will be making his way around the Sioux Empire this week leading up to Christmas. He says although most of his stops will be private visits, you can still catch him a few places to tell him you wishes.

The Sioux Falls Santa has been around our parts for eight years now, and he says most “Santas” don’t set out to be Santa– it’s happenstance. He said he became a Santa when he was at a different conference a few years prior and the scheduled Santa couldn’t appear, so the organizers asked him to do it. He said he already had the white goatee, but he still had to wear a fake beard. He said he decided he didn’t like wearing a fake beard, so he grew one out. As time passed, one thing led to another and he was soon getting his Masters in Santa Clausology, learning everything from the history of Santa to how to get a good picture with crying kids! Santa says his suit weighs about 50 pounds, and he had it specially made by a famous Hollywood costume designer. He even designed it in the classic Renaissance style Santa suit, complete with a staff and bells– and a giant belt buckle that reads “SANTA” in gold.

Santa will be making some private visits to local hospitals this weekend ahead of Christmas, but you can catch him at the Santa Sendoff at the Minnehaha Country Club this Friday, Dec. 23 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For Santa’s future schedule, click here.
