Boys & Girls Club, Plum’s Cooking Co. Teach Kids How To Handle And Cook Food

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Boys & Girl’s Club of the Sioux Empire is partnering up with Plum’s Cooking Company in Sioux Falls.

Today kicked off the first day of their Power Chef Cooking Camps. The 2 week cooking classes aim at helping kids learn the benefits of gardening and how to prepare that food to provide a full-circle learning experience. The kids learn from chefs for 1 hour each session.

Billy Mawhiney with the Boys & Girls Club says organizers hope classes can help low-income students make healthier choices, “The idea is obviously we always have them partner up with adults or parents involved in the house to make sure that they’re being safe.  We’re teaching them all the skills they need to take these skills and kind of explore a little bit more with food at the house.”

The Boys & Girl’s Club says their membership only costs each student $25 per school year.

You can find more information on how to get involved by contacting the Boys & Girls Club at (605) 338-8061 or on their website:
