“Be The Match” Bone Marrow Drive Helping Save Lives

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Avera and the city of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation partnered up today for the “Be The Match” registry drive.

The goal of the bone marrow registry is to get a greater number of people, including our own Kole Fehling, on the nationwide list so more matches can be made for those battling diseases like Leukemia. Today people were swabbing the inside of their cheeks to be put on the registry which is the first step in finding a match. Organizers say a little bit of your time can save a life.

“There are thousands of people out there that have blood cancers and only about 30% are found within the family.  Most of the time a match is found outside of the family,” says Tanya Scheepstra with Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation.

Organizers say the process is relatively pain-free.
