Police Arrest Man For Damaging Sculpture In Downtown Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A 24-year-old was arrested late Saturday night after police say he damaged a sculpture in downtown Sioux Falls.

Police say that around 2 a.m. Saturday morning an off-duty officer witnessed 24-year-old Casey Schmidt climb onto the Salmon Run bear sculpture located on 11th and Philips. Once Schmidt climbed on it a piece of the sculpture broke off. Schmidt left the area but the off-duty officer saw what direction Schmidt headed and he called police.

Police were able to locate Schmidt and arrested him a Felony Intentional Damage to Property charge.

Police are not sure how much damage Schmidt caused, but say that the sculpture is valued at $16,000.
