Salute To Veterans Event Kicks Off
Proceeds Go To Veteran Causes
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The first annual “Salute To Veterans” event kicked off today at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. The event continues through tomorrow.
Veterans have helped out one another by organizing an event that’s not the typical fundraiser you would usually see for veterans. Organizers said that’s because they wanted to do something different; so that way everyone could get involved in helping out veterans.
“Instead of having a poker run or something like that, we decided that we wanted to get the whole community involved and get everybody to come out – young and old and help support the veterans,” said Todd Peterson with the Leatherneck MC biker’s club.
“Salute to Veterans” was put together by a group of Marine Corps Veterans called the Leatherneck MC which is a non profit biker’s club who raise money for veterans. This is just one of their many fundraisers that they do to help out veterans in need.
“One of their big causes is suicide prevention and everybody knows somebody that’s come back from the wars that we’ve been having going on and not everybody is getting along ok,” said Yvette Vanderbrink who owns Vanderbrink Auctions.
Vanderbrink Auctions will be auctioning off classic cars tomorrow. The proceeds from the auctions will go to veteran causes. One of the cars being featured which was donated to the auction is a 1931 Ford “Model A.” A bike auction will also be part of the festival and live music. The Leathernecks said all of this is for one cause – those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
“We just felt obligated that we needed to bring awareness to the community so we just all decided that this was the best way to do it,” said Peterson.
Organizers said the vent is for all ages and starts back up again tomorrow at 8am. Tickets are only $10 with proceeds going directly to veteran causes for things like suicide prevention or even a cab fare to the VA.
