Area Humane Society Holds First Dog Days Carnival
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- These are often called the ‘dog days of summer’ and the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is taking that saying literally.
The shelter hosted its first ‘Dog Days Carnival’ this Sunday afternoon complete with ice cream, face paintings and tours of the facility. The humane society says opening their doors to the public gives people the opportunity to see the adoptable pets inside.
The shelter says they hope the tours can create some bonds between some of the animals and visitors, so more adoptions can be made. It also helps to educate the public about the services that the shelter provides
“It’s nice to kind of have an event that is targeted at the community, so they can as an educational piece kind of learn more about what we do and why we do it. So it kind of just is a feel good event for the community,” says Special Events Coordinator Allison Kolander.
This was the first Carnival however, the shelter says they are looking into making it an annual event. Donations from the event will go towards the shelter.
