Hartington Man Killed In Car Vs. Pedestrian Crash



CEDAR COUNTY, N.E.– The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a car vs. pedestrian on Highway 84, just west of the Highway 57 intersection, shortly before 6 p.m. Monday evening.

Upon investigation, officers found the vehicle driven by 72-year-old Alton Halle, of Hartington, was driving east bound when he struck 55-year-old Daniel Leise, of Hartington, as he was crossing Highway 84.

Leise was flown to a Sioux City hospital were he died from his injuries. Halle was not injured in the accident.

Leise was part of a volunteer group maintaining the ground at a nearby cemetery at the time of the accident.

The crash is still under investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. The Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Roads and Hartington Ambulance assisted at the scene.
