Number Of Sturgis Fatality Accidents Increases To 8
STURGIS, S.D. – With the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally coming to an end Sunday, South Dakota Highway Patrol is encouraging drivers to check their blind spots on the interstate, as motorcycle traffic will increase.
There have been two fatal crashes near the rally over the weekend, both taking place on Saturday. The first one happened at 7 a.m. on Highway 14A. A motorcycle failed to negotiate a right hand turn, was laid down and slid into a guard rail.
The second one took place at 2 p.m. on South Dakota Highway 79. A female drive lost control, rolled her vehicle, and was ejected.
This brings the total fatal accidents number to 8. Last year, there were 3 fatalities. In total, there have been 68 injury accidents, and 161 DUI arrests.
