SF School District To Hold Public Input Meetings On Overcapacity Issues

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – As the 2017-2018 school year is starting to kick into gear the Sioux Falls School District is once again taking a look at overcrowding issues within the district.

The district’s student population continues to grow each year and there are currently more than 23,000 students enrolled. Superintendent Brian Maher says the district is coming to crossroads where enrollment may start to exceed the district’s capacity and that something will have to be done to meet the growth, at all grade levels.

“So the question is, ‘what?’ so before we ever get to the buildings, before we ever get to a bond issue, we really got to have a community conversation about what are we looking at, what are our true needs, and what do we have an appetite to take on as a community,” said Dr. Maher.

Maher says those discussions with the public will likely begin around late fall or early spring.
