Lennox Residents Vote Down Bond For New Public Pool

LENNOX, S.D. – Residents in Lennox have voted down a bond proposal that would have helped pay for a $2.8 million public pool and facilities.

Tuesday’s special election saw 338 of nearly 480 voters — roughly 70% — decline the proposal. City officials estimated that property taxes would have increased about $225 for every $100,000 of property value.

The current pool has been closed since the end of May because of structural issues. Before this year’s closure, it was originally in the city’s 5-year plan to build a new pool.

The city council will now go back to the drawing board, which could include public input meetings.
