Police: Mitchell Man Arrested For Manslaughter After Fatal Stabbing
MITCHELL, S.D. – A 49-year-old Mitchell man was arrested Tuesday morning after police say he stabbed another man multiple times.
Mitchell police received a call around 2:44 a.m. Tuesday morning about an assault that occurred at 127 ½ East 2nd Avenue in Mitchell. Responding Officers found an adult male on the ground near the assault call’s location. The male was bleeding from several apparent stab wounds and was transported to nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say 49-year-old Anthony Lewis was awoken by screaming and someone knocking on his door at his apartment located at 127 ½ East 2nd Avenue. Lewis allegedly picked up knife, went outside his apartment complex and confronted a 30-year-old adult male subject outside of the complex.
Police say, Lewis then stabbed the 30-year-old male approximately three times in the back and one time in the torso. The male subject who was stabbed was transported to Queen of Peace Hospital, where the man was later declared deceased.
Lewis was later arrested on a First Degree Manslaughter charge.
This is an ongoing investigation. The Mitchell Police Division is asking for any information regarding people coming or going from this apartment, or any activity at this apartment around the time of this incident.
