Police: Mother, Boyfriend Locked 8-Year-Old Son Up For 18 Hours

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A Sioux Falls mother and her boyfriend are behind bars today after police say the couple locked her 8-year-old son in a room for nearly 18 hours this weekend.

26-year-old Natalie Jean Connot and 27-year-old Jeremy Ray Harbert are both facing child abuse and false imprisonment charges. Police say the pair locked the young boy in his bedroom Saturday night without a bathroom or any food.

The 8-year-old was able to jump out a second story window, and run to a neighbors house to ask for help.

“He ended up taking a cushion and threw it outside of the window, his room was on the second floor. And he jumped from his room and landed on that cushion and then walked, probably about a block away,” said Officer Sam Clemens.

The neighbor was able to call police and one of the boy’s relatives.

The boy was taken to the hospital and checked for injuries.
