Saints Stumble At Dickinson
Presentation Falls To 20th Ranked Team 40-17
DICKINSON, N.D. – The Presentation College football team fell to No. 20 Dickinson State on the road earlier today by a final score of 40-17. With the loss, the Saints drop to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
DiSU would light up the scoreboard first off a 20-yard rush by Karsten Mack for the early lead. DiSU’s Cody Johnson would miss the PAT to keep the score 6-0 with ten minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Saints would then go on their own scoring drive after an eight-play 69-yard drive to set up a 3-yard Austin Eggl (JR/Minot, ND) pass to William Braswell (SR/Huachuca City, AZ) to tie the game at 6-6. Freshman Jaiden Machuca(FR/Parker, CO) would connect his PAT to give the Saints the one-point edge, 7-6. The score would remain until the second quarter of action but it was all DiSU. The Blue Hawks would connect for two touchdowns and one field goal in the final quarter of the first half to give them a commanding 23-7 lead.
PC would start their first drive of the second half with three points. The Saints would march down the field but were unable to find the end zone after an 11-play 60-yard drive. Jaiden Machuca would connect for his first field goal of the day from 30-yards out to cut the Blue Hawk lead 23-10.
The Blue Hawks would respond with 17 more points off a touchdown, field goal, and a kick-return fumble recovery for six points. With the 17-point surge, DiSU would hold a 40-10 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Both teams would remain scoreless in the final quarter of action until Dominic Encinas(FR/Lakewood, CO) rushed for a 16-yard touchdown with 38 seconds left in the game. With the score, the Saints would fall 40-17 to the No. 20 Blue Hawks.
The Saints recorded 323 yards of total offense in the loss including 191 yards on the ground. Austin Eggl completed 20-of-37 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and one interception. William Moffet (SR/Kindred, ND) led the receivers with 81 yards off four receptions while Logan Weisser (JR/Frederick, SD) connected for 77 yards off seven receptions in the loss. With the seven receptions, Weisser becomes the all-time career leader in receptions with 127 in PC football program history.
Jaiden Machuca stayed perfect as he connected for a 30-yard field goal and two PATs. The Saints defense combined for 81 tackles, one sack, and four tackles-for-loss.
The Saints continue their season on the road as they travel to Mayville on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
