Woman Arrested for Stealing Packages From Several Porches

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sioux Falls Police say this time of year it’s important to keep track of package deliveries coming to your home.

28-year-old Courtney Raelynn Mezacapa was arrested this weekend after police say she was caught stealing packages from porches.

Police says someone saw Mezacapa taking packages from homes on west lakeside drive Saturday night.

She was also seen earlier in the day near the Riverview heights neighborhood.

When police spotted her car, they found two packages inside, along with 11 key holder boxes that realtors use to show homes.

Police say they anticipate more reports of so-called “porch pirates” as the holiday shopping season picks up.

“It’s not uncommon, and we do see reports that come through from time to time of packages that are stolen. It’s a good idea to almost every package that ship now a day has a way of tracking. So if people know it’s coming they should make some arrangements.”

In addition to felony possession of stolen property, Mezacapa is also charged with drug possession and paraphernalia after police say they found marijuana in her car as well.
