Fiery Crash Near Montrose Claims One Life

A woman is dead in a fiery car crash north of Montrose.

Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, a Dodge Caravan was headed east on 248th Street nearly Valley Road six miles north of Montrose in McCook County.  The driver, a 41-year-old woman, was approaching a curve when she lost control.  The van went into the ditch, rolled and started on fire.  She died at the scene.  Her name is not being released until family is notified.  She was the only person inside the van.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, it’s still unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt.  The crash is under investigation.
