Street Construction Impacting Corn Palace Visitor Numbers

MITCHELL, S.D. – Street construction in Mitchell is impacting visitation at the city’s main tourist attraction.

Corn Palace Director Scott Schmidt says visitor numbers were at about 114,000 from May 1st to July 9th, down about 13,000 from the same period last year.

Board members cite an ongoing road project that’s expected to be mostly complete next week.

The Corn Palace murals typically draw about 200,000 tourists each year.
