Sturgis Seeing Increased Sex Trafficking Activity During Rally

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sturgis is seen as a “high risk” area for human trafficking during the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Those in the fight against trafficking say people can help spot victims. Signs to look for include any indication that a person’s actions or words are being controlled, or signs of physical abuse.

The New Colossus, a non-profit organization aiming to educate people about human trafficking says to trust your instincts, and when you see something, say something.

“You get a weird feeling like the hair on your neck stands up, something like that. If it seems wrong, say something. You don’t have to be one-hundred percent sure its trafficking, you don’t have to know if there’s a trafficker or a pimp in play somewhere,” said Polly Dean, Co-founder of The New Colossus.

If you do witness a possible situation, be sure to call authorities with all the info you can give, and a license plate if at all possible.
