Sioux Falls Man Arrested for Strangling Girlfriend, Breaking Child’s Arm

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A Sioux Falls man is facing domestic assault charges after a one-year-old suffered a broken arm during an incident between the mother and her boyfriend last Friday.

Police say on Tuesday, the grandparents of one-year-old noticed the child wasn’t using his arm and was holding it strangely. The grandparents took the child to the hospital where it was determined that the arm was broken.

Police say the broken arm was the result of a dispute between the mother and her boyfriend on Friday. Police spoke to the mother and learned that the boyfriend was drinking when an argument began.

Police say the boyfriend pushed her to the ground, bit her face, and strangled her until she lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness she found her one-year-old outside of his crib and crying. The argument continued and police say the boyfriend again strangled her until she lost consciousness.

Police say the incident was not reported at the time.

Police found the boyfriend at the residence located on the 500 block of North Fairfax Avenue.

24-year-old David Michael Connell was arrested on abuse or cruelty to a minor age 7 plus and aggravated assault domestic charges.

Police say a three-year-old girl was present during the incident but was not injured.

Police say Connell is not the father of either of the children.
