Pools Are Closing For The Summer

SIOUX FALLS, SD-   While the heat continues to stick around, the number of places to cool off is shrinking.

On Sunday, Kuehn Pool is officially closed for the season.  Laurel Oak  Family Aquatic Center closed on Friday, and Frank Olson Pool closed last weekend.

Drake Srpings, Terrace Park, The McKennan Wading Pool and Pioneer Spray Park are still open.

Sioux Falls Parks and Rec officials say the pools usually open the first of June if weather permitting, and how long they stay open is determined by school schedules.

“We do have kids that are leaving to go back to what ever it is they need to do to prepare for their school year. Unfortunately, we have to make tough decisions and some facilities do need to close down. But it’s not any earlier than what we have historically done,” said Parks and Recreation Coordinator Jean Pearson.

The remaining pools will stay open until the Sunday before Labor Day.  Once kids are out of the pool, the city opens it one day for the dogs.  Dogs are welcome to take a dip at the Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center on September 4th.
